Republic Day Parade: ‘Sanjay’, ‘Pralay’ to be showcased for the first time

  • The 76th Republic Day parade will see the first display of the Indian Army’s combat surveillance system ‘Sanjay’ and the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) surface-to-air missile systems.
  • Also on display are the electronic warfare system ‘Tarashakti’, India’s first long-range hypersonic missile, lightweight bulletproof vests and ‘Zorav’ artillery.
  • For the first time, the tri-colour will be played at the parade.
  • In addition, DRDO will also be showcasing its unique ‘Multi-layered Defence to Prevent Multi-Faceted Attacks’.

  • Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has been awarded the Outstanding Service Award for the year 2025 by the Commission on Scientific and Technical Studies of the American Astronomical Society.
  • Mohapatra has been conferred the honour by the Tropical Meteorology and Tropical Cyclone Study Group of the AMS for helping in better cyclone forecasting and precautionary measures in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • He is India’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the 3rd Vice President of the United Nations Weather Service.

The publication of the book ‘Iron Age’:

  • South India is known for its Iron Age archaeological sites.
  • Stalin said that iron was in use in Tamil Nadu 5,300 years ago.
  • Evidence was obtained from Iron Age burial mounds at Mangadu (Salem), Keezhnamandi (Tiruvannamalai), Mayiladumparai (Krishnagar), Adichanallur and Sivagala (Thoothukudi) in Tamil Nadu.
  • These were subjected to radioactive organic dating and trigger dating.
  • So far, more than 3,000 Iron Age burial mounds have been found in our state.
  • Of these, 1,362 old age homes, 996 Parel Uya hoardings, 225 stone circles and 634 habitable burial grounds have been identified.
  • The sample of the iron sword was found in a broken stone hoarding at Mangadu in Mettur taluk of Salem district.
  • An iron sample was found from the first cremation ground at Keezhnamandi in Tiruvannamalai district.
  • Iron ore was recovered from a quarry at Mayiladumpara in Krishnagiri district.
  • Iron swords, knives, spears, arrowheads and three-pronged spears were found at the Adichanallur crematorium in Thoothukudi district.
  • Sivagala, another archaeological site in Thoothukudi district, is an Iron Age habitation and burial site.

January 24 is National Girl Child Day.
