The Uniform Civil Code:
- Different religions have different laws regarding marriage, divorce, adoption, and inheritance.
- To change this, the central government is trying to bring a common civil law across the country so that all religions follow the same law.
- The Committee was constituted on 27th May, 2022 under the Chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, former Judge, Supreme Court of India to draft the Common Civil Code.
- In February last year, the Uttarakhand Assembly had passed the Common Civil Code Bill.
- An expert committee, headed by former chief secretary Shatrughna Singh, was set up to frame rules and regulations for the implementation of the Act.
- Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the Common Civil Code will come into force in Uttarakhand from January 27.
- Uttarakhand was the first state in independent India to enact a common civil code.
One Nation, One time:
- The Central Government has issued draft rules making it mandatory to follow Indian Standard Time (IST) in all official and commercial applications across the country.
- The draft Legislative Weather (IST) Rules, 2024 were issued to ensure simultaneous adoption in sectors that are critical to the nation’s infrastructure – telecom, banking, security, 5G and artificial intelligence (AI).
- It emphasizes on the use of IST in all kinds of applications – administrative, commercial, financial, administrative, legal contracts. It is prohibited under these rules to follow time plans other than IST.
- Also, aspects including display of IST in government and public sector undertakings have been mentioned in the draft rules.
- Only certain sectors, including astronomy, navigation, and scientific research, are exempted from these rules with prior permission from the government.
- The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and ISRO is in the process of calculating and publishing the exact time.
Flint Objects found in the Vembakotta excavation:
- A human skeleton made of mud has been found in the Vembakottai 3rd phase of excavation in Virudhunagar district.
- The first phase of the excavation work was carried out at the summit area along the Vembakottai Vaipaaru.
