Nationwide Coastal Defence Exercise:

  • The Union Ministry of Defence informed that the Sea Vigil 24 exercise led by the Indian Navy will be conducted nationwide on 20th & 21st
  • After the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, these exercises have been carried out to strengthen coastal defences.
  • The country has about 11,098 km of coastline and an exclusive economic zone covering an area of ​​24 lakh square km.
  • This comprehensive exercise aims to simultaneously engage all maritime stakeholders including the fishing community, coastal population, various coastal defence infrastructures and sensitize them on safety against marine hazards.
  • This ‘Sea Vigil’ exercise is designed to enhance these activities.

107th Meeting of Cauvery Water Regulation Committee:

  • The 107th meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Committee was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Vineet Gupta through video-conferencing.
  • The Central Government has set up the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to solve the problems related to the sharing of Cauvery water between the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.
  • In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6A of the Inter-State Water Resources Act, 1956, the Central Government constituted the Cauvery Water Management Authority on 1 June 2018 to manage the Cauvery Water.
  • The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee should implement the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s decision.
  • Its Chairman – to be appointed by the Central Government, shall hold office for five years or till the age of sixty-five years.
  • The Cauvery River Commission consists of a Chairman, eight members and a Secretary.

G20 Summit:

  • Prime Minister Modi will leave for the G20 summit in Brazil on 18th
  • The G20 is a consortium of finance ministers and central bank governors from twenty world countries and financial institutions.
  • 19 developed countries of the world and the European Union are members of this organization.
  • 20 countries including India, Indonesia, USA, UK, Argentina, Brazil, China, Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, France, European Union are members of this organization.
  • Each country rotates each year to chair the G20 organization.

First Booker Prize for a Space Book: Samantha Harvey

  • Samantha Harvey has been awarded the Booker Prize for 2024.
  • Samantha Harvey has been honoured for her novel ‘Orbital’.
  • This is the first time that an aerospace book has received such an honour.
  • Samantha Harvey has been honoured with the Booker Prize at an event in London.
  • Samantha Harvey received the award along with €50,000 in cash.

November 14: Children’s Day

  • Children’s Day is celebrated in India on 14th November every year.
  • On this day people are made aware about the rights, safety and education of children.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.

November 14: World Diabetes Day

  • November 14th is observed as World Diabetes Day.
  • The primary objective of this day is to create awareness about the impact of diabetes, its prevention and diabetes education.
