Birsa Munda: 50th birthday
- The 50th birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda was celebrated.
- Born into a tribal community in Ulihatu, Jharkhand. Birsa Munda fought against the oppression of the British rule at an early age.
- Born in 1875, he began to understand the nature of exploitation against his tribal villagers.
- He strived for a positive political project.
- His aim was to achieve religious and political freedom.
- This movement sought to establish the rights of the Munda’s as the real owners of the land.
- Birsa Munda fought to protect tribal land and rights.
- Thus, he was called ‘Father of the Land’ by the tribal.
- On the occasion of Birsa Munda’s birthday in Bihar, PM Modi will also launch schemes worth Rs 6000 crore.
- In the year 2000, the state of Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar on Birsa Munda’s birthday.
Munda Rebellion:
- A tribal movement led by Birsa Munda in the late 19th century against the British oppression of tribal communities in the Chotanagpur region.
- It is also known as Ulgulan or The Great Tumult.
- The cause of this uprising was similar to other revolts – British colonialists, zamindars and missionaries.
- The Mundas practiced the Khuntkatti system, where the entire clan jointly owned a plot of land suitable for cultivation.
- This movement sought to establish the rights of the Mundas as the real owners of the land.
Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee Meeting:
- Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee meeting will be held on November 19.
- The Public Accounts Committee is a committee of elected members of Parliament constituted by the Parliament of India for the purpose of auditing the revenue and expenditure of the Government of India.
- 15 members from the Lok Sabha and 7 members from the Rajya Sabha are elected annually to the Public Accounts Committee.
- The term of office of the members is one year.
- The Chairman of the Committee is appointed by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
- Since 1967, the committee has been chaired by a person from the opposition party.
- A minister cannot be a member of this committee.
- If a member of the Public Accounts Committee takes office as a Minister, a new member should be elected in his place.
Dominica’s highest national award for PM Modi:
- The Commonwealth of Dominica will bestow its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in recognition of his contributions to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.
- To honour Prime Minister Modi, the government of Dominica has decided to award him the Dominica Award, the country’s highest national award.
- The award will be presented to Prime Minister Modi by Commonwealth of Dominica President Sylvanie Burton during the India – CARICOM (CARICOM – The Caribbean Community and Common Market) summit to be held in Georgetown, Guyana from November 19 to 21.
Pinaka Rocket Launch System Testing:
- The indigenously developed Pinaka rocket launch system was also tested.
- The Pinaka rocket A system test was successfully completed by DRDO to investigate the performance of the evaluation quality factors.
- The test was carried out in three phases to strike targets in different areas.
- Twelve rockets from each company that manufactured the Pinaka weapon system were fired from two upgraded Pinaka launchers and tested.
- These multi-pronged attack missile launchers have been jointly developed by various companies/organizations including Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Larsen and Toubro.
