Women in Lok Sabha:

  • Although the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in 2023, it will come into effect only in 2029.
  • Therefore, the 18th Lok Sabha will be the last Lok Sabha without reservation for women.
  • In the 18th Lok Sabha polls, 96.8 crore women were eligible to vote, of which 47.15 crore women were 48.7 percent.
  • A total of 8,360 candidates contested the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls.
  • In Tamil Nadu, 8 percent of the candidates who contested were 76 women.
  • Women’s strength declined in the 18th Lok Sabha, with women’s representation falling from 78 in the previous 17th Lok Sabha to 74 this time.
  • 18 – The ‘NDA’ coalition government was formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and 7 women took charge in the 72-seat Union Cabinet.
  • Two of them got Cabinet status, Nirmala Sitharaman was given the Finance portfolio and Annapurna Devi the Women and Child Development portfolio.

NITI Aayog Executive Council Meeting on July 27:

  • A meeting of the Executive Council of NITI Aayog will be held in Delhi on July 27 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • In this, the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ plan to make India a developed country will be discussed in detail.
  • The Governing Body is the governing body of the Justice Commission.
  • All State Chief Ministers, Deputy Governors of Union Territories, Central Ministries responsible for important departments are included in the Executive Committee of NITI Aayog.
  • Viksit Bharat 2047 aims to make India a developed nation with a $30 trillion economy by the time India celebrates 100 years of independence.
  • Apart from economic growth, it is also ensured that the country performs well in various fields including social development, environmental protection and good governance.
  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Union Budget on July 23.
  • NITI Aayog was formed on January 1, 2015 by the BJP-led Central Government to replace the Central Planning Commission.
  • Its primary objective is to formulate policy for national development.

“Makkaludan Mudhalvar” Scheme:

  • Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will inaugurate the 2nd phase of the Chief Minister with “Makkaludan Mudhalvar” programme in Dharmapuri district on July 11.
  • After the first project of this scheme, the project is expanding towards rural areas.
  • It aims at quality redressal of grievances or petitions filed by people within 30 days.
  • According to this, phase wise special camps will be held in all 38 districts of the state to collect petitions related to various sectors and issues.
  • 13 – A new program called “Makkaludan Mudhalvar” was launched to make public access to services of key government departments faster and easier.
