Indus Waters Treaty:

India and Pakistan signed the Indus Waters Treaty on September 19, 1960.

Since then, the two countries have been at loggerheads over the implementation of the Kisanganga and Ratle Neemin projects.

In this context, India has been insisting on resolving the issue in accordance with the advice of the expert appointed by the World Bank in accordance with the Indus Waters Treaty.

However, Pakistan is trying to resolve the issue through the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.

The World Bank-appointed expert on the issue, Michael Lino (head of the International Commission on Large Dams), said the two hydropower projects would be a win-win solution for both countries.

The Keezhadi open-air museum:

  • It showcases the culture of the Tamils on the banks of the Vaigai River.
  • The site is believed to date from between the 6th and 5th centuries BC.
  • This excavation is also related to the Indus Valley Civilization.
  • This is the biggest scam in the history of Tamil Nadu.
  • During the excavation of more than 40 pits, the remains of ancient people of the Sangam age have been found in large numbers.
  • The Keezhadi civilization is 2600 years old.
  • According to the results of the Keezhadi Phase IV excavation, the Keezhadi civilization is a city civilization and the Tamil Sangam period is 300 years old.
  • The site was discovered in 2014 by Amarnath Ramakrishna, who was the Superintendent of the Archaeological Survey of India.
  • The excavation was started in 2015 by Superintendent of Archaeology Amarnath Ramakrishna.

Foundation Day of Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya

  • Northeast India comprises seven states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
  • On 21 January 1972, the states of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya became full-fledged states under the North Eastern Region (Reorganisation) Act, 1971.
  • In 1949, the states of Manipur and Tripura were granted the status of Union Territories. Nagaland was granted statehood on 1 December 1963.
  • As per the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, within Assam, Meghalaya was made an autonomous state by the Assam Reorganisation (Meghalaya) Act 1969.
  • In 1972, Tripura and Meghalaya were granted full statehood through the North-East Reorganisation Act of 1972.
  • In 1972, three states were formed – Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya.
